SaneBox
Moves low-priority mail out of your inbox into folders based on how you treat similar mail, and sends a digest of what it moved.
- Works with Gmail
- Works with Outlook
Triage tools decide what reaches your inbox first. They look at each new message and either move it out of the way, label it by priority, or prepare a reply. The aim is a short inbox that holds only mail from people and things you need to act on.
There are two kinds here. Filters such as SaneBox learn from what you open and reply to, then move the rest into a folder you check once a day. Assistants such as Fyxer AI or Inbox Zero read each message, apply labels or rules you describe in plain language, and draft replies for you to approve. Lindy goes further and lets you build an assistant that handles several steps.
Both kinds need full access to your mailbox, and both make mistakes at first. Plan for a week of checking the "low priority" folder and correcting the tool. Keep anything with legal, money or health content out of automatic replies.

Assistant for Gmail and Outlook that labels incoming email by priority and drafts replies in your tone for you to review.
Open-source AI email assistant for Gmail that follows rules written in plain English, plus bulk unsubscribe and cold-email blocking.
Builds AI assistants from plain instructions that can triage your inbox, draft replies and handle other admin tasks.
Start with the mildest setting each tool offers. Let it label or move mail, and keep replies as drafts you send yourself. Once the sorting is reliable, you can decide whether any routine replies, such as meeting confirmations, are safe to automate. Triage works best together with cleanup: unsubscribe from what you never read first, so the tool spends its effort on mail that matters.
Check how each tool tells you what it did. A daily digest of moved messages, or a clear label on every sorted email, makes mistakes easy to spot and fix.
The tools here move or label mail rather than delete it, so a misfiled message can be found in another folder. Check the settings, since some offer optional cleanup rules you have to switch on.
Expect a week or two of corrections. Move misfiled messages back and the tool adjusts. Check the low-priority folder daily until you trust what lands there.
Most draft replies for you to review and send. Some can be set to act automatically. For anything involving money, contracts or health, keep a person in the loop.
Filters that work on the server side, such as SaneBox, work with any app because they move mail between folders. Assistants built for Gmail or Outlook only work with those accounts.
